After School Director (CLUB KAS), PART-TIME

Kentucky Avenue School, a K-8 independent school in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh is seeking a Part-Time After School Director for our Club KAS program this school year. Kentucky Avenue seeks to hire a creative, innovative, caring, and experienced educator with a commitment to experiential learning. KAS values the integration of social and emotional learning with academics, and is dedicated to providing a highly differentiated curriculum in a warm, inclusive school climate. Additionally, Kentucky Avenue School embraces Maker-Centered Learning and the Responsive Classroom approach.  Art and self-expression are important components of this structure.

Responsibilities 

• Supervising students and managing programming from approximately 300-530PM daily.
• Working as a part of a team; and developing outreach to opportunities outside the school.
• Being an integral part of a caring community of learners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree is preferred, with experience with students in the K-8 range.
• Having the appropriate clearances is necessary
• Student management experience in a classroom or camp setting is important.
• Ideal candidates will have some elementary school teaching experience, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor.  

Preferred Qualities 

• An awareness of the different needs of children.
• A passion for working with young children in an after-school-style program.
• Sensitivity to diverse communities of learners and an appreciation of developmental differences.
• A willingness to ask questions, and take time to celebrate our amazing students.
