2019-2020 National History Day Regional Competition
Participation in the National History Day Competition at Heinz History Center is a KAS tradition. This year, we had three winners:
Eighth Grader Olina Mukherjee's Individual Website entitled "From Numbers to Words: How Grace Hopper Broke the Barrier of Human-Computer Communicatio"n won 1st place.
Eighth Grader Isaac Platt's Historical Paper, "Breaking Ideological Barriers: FDR and the New Deal Years" took a second place award.
Sixth Grader Isa Kulick won third place for her Individual Documentary- "Cecilia Chung: A Woman TRANScending Barriers and Breaking the Silence"
2019-2020 First Lego League Robotics
The KAS Skyscrapers First Lego League Team took first place in both mechanical design and the robot game in this year's Western PA FLL Championship Tournament! They also received special recognition for their research project and strategy!
University of Pittsburgh Department of Asian Studies Essay Contest
Eighth grader Jenna Conway-Phillips' essay earned her second place honors in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Asian Studies' celebration of Peace, Truth and Action, held in honor of Mahatma Ghandi's 150th birthday.
2019 National History Day Regional Competition
The Middle School competed in National History Day at the Heinz History Center. It was the culmination of many months of work during this school year. Congratulations to all for their hard work! Four of our students placed in the competition and will be going to the National History Day State Competition in May.

2019 Rube Goldberg Machine Regional Contest
1st Place Kentucky Avenue School Fifth Grade. The students will be competing at Nationals in Indiana. Congratulations Fifth Grade!
2019 Rendell Center Citizenship Challenge Pittsburgh
1st Place Kentucky Avenue School 5th Grade. Congratulations Fifth Grade!
2018 First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament
The Middle School competed in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament Open Division. 34 teams participated in this tournament.
KAS Eclipse placed 9th overall and 2nd Place in Robot Design - Programming.
Cosmic Bowties placed 14th overall.

This year, 6th grade student, Olina Mukherjee and 7th grade student, Henry Fried participated in the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair. A huge congratulations to them both!

2017 First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament
The Middle School competed in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament on January 12-13, 2018 at La Roche College with three teams this year: KAS Lightning, KAS Ladybots and KAS Blazers.
The KAS Blazers won 2nd Place in Research and were recognized in the top 10 for Robot Design, Programming and Strategy.
The KAS Ladybots won 2nd Place in Core Values - Gracious Professionalism and were recognized in the top 10 for Programming and Strategy.

Congratulations to Nadia Lowen Webb and Kate Strong!! Nadia placed 3rd in the state for her historical paper: "Melba Pattillo Beals - Taking a Stand for Equal Opportunity". Kate placed 6th in the state for her historical paper: "Rachel Carson: Taking a Stand for the Environment". Way to go, Ladies!!

2016 First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament
The Middle School competed in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament on January 6-7, 2017 at La Roche College and did a fantastic job! Thirty five teams competed in the Scholastic Division.
The KAS Blazers won 1st Place in Robot Design - Programming and 1st Place in Robot Performance.
The KAS Ladybots won 1st Place in Core Values - Gracious Professionalism & 2nd Place in Robot Performance.
