New Data System Roll-Out.

Parents, KAS has begun to roll-out a comprehensive data system called FACTS. We will begin to transition into this system over the next six months for all our student information and finances. Payments, report cards, curriculum, and most other information will be utilized through this system. Once fully implemented, we will be able to streamline much of the 'back room' work we now do.

In the coming weeks, you will receive details on how to engage with FACTS. Thanks for looking out for this upgrade to how we manage our data at KAS.

Makerspace "Soft Opening"

While still not completely finished, students have begun to use the KAS makerspace, aptly named the Hop Shop. Our first project is being led by Mike Cochran in the Middle School and is nothing other than a student designed and hand-made MAGLEV train track!
Students will be using the space more throughout the spring, and will have weekly scheduled time in the space starting this fall. Making and the creation of artifacts is a superior method for students to evaluate what they are learning and to synthesize their knowledge into creative solutions and expressions.
We continue to develop the space and later this school year we hope you'll stop in to see what your child is doing. Keep in mind, some of the work from this space will be exhibited at the Exhibition of Learning, Monday, June 2 late this school year.

QUICK REMINDERS:

1. KAS Running Club is Back. Our Running Club is open to all K-8 KAS students and running club is now underway. We meet Thursdays after school and all are invited! There is no long-term commitment - even joining for random workouts encouraged. Just call us the day prior (or that morning), and we'll assure your child is on the roster.

2. Thanks to the parents who participated in the KAS Spring Cleaning. Specific to the lunchroom, we feel we are in a better place to redesign our food program - more on that later. Again, thanks to the parents who took time to join us last week.

3. The Talent Show needs to change times. Due to the ask from elementary students to attend the event and support their friends, we may need to move the elementary talent show. My apologies in advance to any parent who may not be able to attend - I will send more information out ASAP.

4. Club KAS continues! Remember to check for the Wednesday-specific activities. And know that Club KAS is open daily for all students to attend - just give the office a call if you need to register for a particular day - even the same day.

5. March 14 & Professional Development. Teachers will be working with Dr. Randy Bartlett to develop their knowledge and skills around Project Based Learning and the use of Making for student learning and assessment. If you are free to help substitute in a class, please let us know! We are hoping to get all teachers in the training.

6. Spring Break is coming. School will be closed Monday through Friday, March 24-28. There will not be anyone in the office during this time. School will resume as usual, Monday morning, March 31st in the morning.
Thank you for supporting our 'landlord' by choosing to not walk on the grass by our entrance/exit. We're working with the Church to keep our entrance clean and beautiful as spring arrives.
