That was a Fast First Month of School!

We are rapidly approaching October with cooler weather, and more established classroom expectations. Students are settled and the pace of learning has notably increased. Our first round of MAP Testing is complete, school spirit is a focus (Go Pajama Day!), and our first all-school assembly has passed as we work to meet each student's needs. For the coming weeks, we anticipate our students will have class trips to places like a pumpkin patch and Walnut Street, and that more projects are on the way!

One upcoming administrative goal is to develop a new multi-year strategic plan for our school. It's time to set new goals and strategies to assure KAS's future is bright. We will continue to gather data, and if you have insight or opinions that you want to share with me directly, I am happy to hear what you have to say. In the end, with board leadership, we will publish a new strategic plan in the coming months as we seek to assure our legacy remains intact for years to come.

BEFORE YOU READ ON: Please plan to attend our Annual Curriculum Night at KAS Thursday, September 26th.

We'll be sharing our standards, expectations, projects, and assessments for the school year with you. Arrival begins at 630PM with teacher presentations starting at 645PM in each homeroom. We'll plan to conclude by 800PM, and we'd love to see every parent in attendance. Questions? Contact Sherry in the Office.

Used Crayon Drive.

Parents, we are seeking all your slightly used (and well-worn) crayons. Our goal is to recycle them into sets of fresh new KAS-branded crayons for use in classes and as donations! If you have unwanted crayons at home, please send them to school: we happily accept all colors, brands, and sizes.

Cross Country
@ KAS.

With 12 students so far in grades K through 6, KAS running club is underway. Please remind your child that all Wednesday practices are open, and we welcome newcomers to join us after school. Note: our first race is this coming weekend (Sunday the 22nd).

Maker
Donations.

One long-range goal for KAS is to expand our project-based learning and we want to grow our Makerspace experience. We are looking for donations that include things from old tools like hammers and screw drivers to corks, buttons, and ribbon rolls. Please send your items (safely) to the office.

INCREASED SOCIAL MEDIA.

Though our start was slow on social media this school year, it is now our goal to share some of our amazing experiences with you online regularly. From daily literacy to long-range projects to "throw-back" photos of our alumni, we want everyone to know how special KAS is. If you are not friends with KAS on Facebook and Instagram, I hope you will look for us - and share upcoming pictures and narratives with friends. Though we are small, we do have so much worth sharing across the school.

NEW KAS STUFFIES ARE HERE!

We are proud to introduce our newest KAS friends - kangaroo stuffies (see below). We have a small mob or court (names used for a group of kangaroos) we will be selling to interested families as a fundraiser. The price for each is $20, with all profits dedicated to instructional materials across the school.

STUDENT REFERRALS.

As defined by our published school mission, we will always remain a small school, and will be focused on the individuals in the building and their needs. We make decisions based on smaller class sizes, and different resource availability than, for example, public schools or those private schools with endowments. Therefore, it is probably no surprise that the vast majority of our revenue is tuition-based (though grant writing is increasing this year!). Therefore, if you know of a family that might benefit from meeting us and hearing about our 'small but mighty' school, let us know. We are always happy to reach out to prospective families, and discuss our school with them.
Remember: no School October 3 and 4 for students.

Thank you once again for all you do to support KAS.
