Get Involved

KAS was founded by parents, and families are still at the heart of everything we do. Our school is small but mighty: every hour you give makes a real difference for our students and teachers. It’s also one of the best ways to get to know the KAS community. There’s a place for every schedule and skill set.

PTO

The KAS PTO is a community of families, teachers and administrators working together to strengthen family–school partnerships and build our KAS community. Every KAS family is part of the PTO. Come to a meeting, help plan an event, or bring a new idea. We’re always looking for fresh energy! Email the PTO at pto.admin@kentuckyavenueschool.org.

Share Your Expertise

Some of our students’ most memorable lessons come from KAS families. Our project-based curriculum thrives on real-world connections. Parents and family members regularly visit classrooms to share their work, lead a hands-on project, or bring a hobby to life. Scientists, artists, engineers, chefs, musicians, builders: if you have a passion or a profession, our students want to hear about it. Let us know what you’d like to share and we’ll connect you with a teacher. Reach out!

Board Committees

You don’t need to join the Board or attend monthly meetings to make a lasting impact. KAS committees work alongside staff and administration in:

  • Finance and Budgeting
  • Marketing
  • Fundraising and Development
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Facilities, Emergency Preparedness and Safety
  • Health and Wellness
  • Technology

Volunteers have contributed design and web services, tech support, grant writing, community connections, and even painting and moving day help. Most commitments take just a few hours a month. Tell us what skills you have, and we’ll find the right fit. Email the Board at boardnews@kentuckyavenueschool.org.

Fundraising

Tuition doesn’t cover the full cost of educating each student, and roughly one third of KAS families receive financial aid. Families help close that gap by supporting campaigns like the Read-a-Thon and Giving Tuesday, and by checking whether their employer will match donations. Reach out to learn more.

Events & Celebrations

Volunteers help bring our biggest days to life: open houses and tours, the Read-a-Thon, the STEM Challenge, graduation, and this year’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Whether you can set up, greet families, take photos or clean up, we’d love your help. Reach out!

Field Trips & Classroom Support

The neighborhood is our classroom. Our central location in the East End puts parks, museums, libraries and local businesses within reach, and family volunteers make many of these trips possible. Look for emails from your child’s teacher asking for chaperones and drivers. We also welcome help supervising recess, activities and other non-instructional time. Reach out!
