Kentucky Avenue seeks to hire a creative, innovative and experienced educator with a commitment to experiential learning. Responsibilities:
● Teach mathematics 5th-8th graders in a multi-age setting
● Create and deliver curriculum aligned with the school’s mission
● Communicate and collaborate successfully with other faculty and staff members
● Communicate regularly and effectively with parents
● Continue to grow as a professional through professional development and continuing
study
● Collaborate with other middle school teachers to provide the best possible experience
and outcomes for our students
● Support the school with other duties as needed
Requirements:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
● PA Secondary Math Certification(s) or Private Academic Certification
● Experience teaching middle school students
● An educational philosophy that aligns with that of our school
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills over multiple platforms
● PA Act 151, Act 34 and Criminal History Record Clearances
Preferred Qualities:
● Responsive Classroom experience
● An enthusiasm for learning and an open-minded, creative outlook
● Experience in teaching inquiry-based STEM/STEAM
● Experience with cross-curricular, project based learning
● Experience with differentiated instruction

Job Description
Kentucky Avenue School, a K-8 independent school in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, announces a search for a K-5 part-time substitute teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Kentucky Avenue seeks to hire a creative, innovative and experienced educator with a commitment to experiential learning. KAS values the integration of social and emotional learning with academics, and is dedicated to providing highly differentiated curriculum in a warm, inclusive school climate. Additionally, Kentucky Avenue School embraces Maker-Centered Learning and the Responsive Classroom approach.
Responsibilities will include:
• Teaching all subjects to a group of children
• Working as a part of a team; extra duties include recess, lunch and carpool duties
• Being an integral part of a caring community of learners
A successful candidate will have:
• A depth of knowledge and understanding of young children
• A passion for working with young children
• A knowledge of guided reading and teaching Singapore Math
• Sensitivity to diverse communities of learners and an appreciation of developmental
differences in an elementary school setting
• A knowledge of 21st Century Skills and how they relate to classroom teaching
A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree in elementary education is a real plus. Ideal candidates will have some elementary school teaching experience, an understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, superior interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor.
Lunch is included on Mondays and Wednesdays when school is in session.
