We are looking for a full-time classroom teacher, starting August 2021.

Kentucky Avenue School, a K-8 independent school in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, announces a search for a classroom teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Kentucky Avenue seeks to hire a creative, innovative and experienced early childhood educator with a commitment to experiential learning. KAS values the integration of social and emotional learning with academics, and is dedicated to providing highly differentiated curriculum in a warm, inclusive school climate. Additionally, Kentucky Avenue School embraces the Maker Movement in education, and the Responsive Classroom approach.

Responsibilities:
Teach reading, writer’s workshop, mathematics, science, social studies and physical education 
Integrate creativity, arts, and making into the classroom
Create and deliver curriculum aligned with the school’s mission
Differentiate instruction for learners with a wide variety of academic, social and behavioral needs
Communicate and collaborate successfully with other faculty and staff members
Communicate regularly and effectively with parents 
Continue to grow as a professional through professional development and continuing study

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
PA Elementary/Early Childhood Certification or Private Academic Certification 
Experience teaching in an early childhood or elementary classroom
An educational philosophy that aligns with that of our school
Excellent written and verbal  communication skills over multiple platforms
PA Act 151, Act 34  and  FBI Criminal History Record Clearances

Preferred Qualities:
Responsive Classroom experience
An enthusiasm for learning and an open-minded, creative outlook
Experience with cross-curricular, project based learning
Experience with differentiated instruction
Experience with and passion for the Maker Movement in education, the Reggio Emilia Approach, Social Constructivism and related educational theories/practices
